The Blacktop Rockets

Leading the pack for over two decades, The BLACKTOP ROCKETS are a combustible concoction of rockabilly, hillbilly and country poured into a '32 Ford coupe roaring down the blue highways of America. Evoking the free-wheeling spirit of Sun Records style Rock'n Roll, The BLACKTOP ROCKETS "..glorify the rockabilly tradition and shake the walls!," wrote Creative Loafing.

Originally a stripped-down duo featuring Dave Weil (vocals/guitar) and David Watkins (drums), this Atlanta GA outfit built it's sound adding dog-house bass and later veteran guitarist/songwriter Johnny McGowan and his 500HP spark. The band was revved-up, burning rubber from the Big Easy to the Big Apple; from the City of Brotherly Love to the City That Never Sleeps.

The songwriting team of McGowan and Weil nimbly bend and blend any and all Southern genres, fusing great melodies, memorable riffs and from the heart story telling. With Daves' rich vocals, Johnnys' incendiary guitar, and new rhythm section Mike "Hammer" Wray on drums and Jay Murphree on bass, this group is super-charged. When The BLACKTOP ROCKETS hit the stage, crowds can't help but shake their hips and stomp their feet.

Performing alongside The Blasters and the late, great Ronnie Dawson, storming the stages of Viva Las Vegas and Lead East, opening for Southern Culture on the Skids and Reverend Horton Heat, backing musical legends Wanda Jackson, Billy Lee Riley, and Joe Clay, The BLACKTOP ROCKETS epitomize the fire of American music.

So when they roll into there!
